Beyond the Byline

(interview transcript)

Where did you get your start in the industry?

From the moment I began my career in editorial in 2005 at American Lawer Media, to my most recent role as a Program Coordinator with the United States Air Force, my journey has been defined by a continuous quest for excellence and innovation. These diverse experiences have equipped me with a unique skill set and a profound understanding of the multifaceted world of business and marketing. Now, as Editor-In-Chief for the new quarterly magazine, I am filled with enthusiasm and anticipation for the opportunities that lie ahead.

How did you grow into your role?

During my tenure at ALM, I honed my editorial skills and developed a keen eye for detail, which laid the foundation for my career in communications. Transitioning to radio with Clear Channel Broadcasting further broadened my horizons, allowing me to explore the dynamic world of media and entertainment. Here, I learned the importance of audience engagement and the power of storytelling, elements that are crucial for an editorial team. These early experiences were instrumental in shaping my professional journey and instilling in me a passion for creating impactful content.

Have you worked in any other field?

My role as a global brand ambassador for several leading international companies was a pivotal phase of my career. Representing these brands on a global stage for six years required not only a deep understanding of brand identity, but also the ability to adapt and connect with diverse audiences. This experience taught me the nuances of brand management and the significance of maintaining a consistent brand voice across different markets. It was a challenging, yet rewarding experience that significantly enhanced my communication and leadership skills.

What prepared you the most for where you are now?

The most transformative chapter of my career, however, has been my role as a Program Coordinator with the United States Air Force. Leading specialized teams in policy, finance, and education required a high level of strategic planning, coordination, and leadership. This role allowed me to develop a holistic understanding of organizational dynamics and the importance of cohesive team effort in achieving organizational goals. The skills I acquired here – from ethics, to project management, security and policy compliance – will undoubtedly prove beneficial in the start-up of this new venture.

What kind of Editor-In-Chief will you be?

Looking ahead, my work experience and future plans are centered around leading a holistic publication that does more than just inform – it connects, inspires, and transforms. As Editor-In-Chief, I envision a collaborative and inclusive editorial process that empowers diverse voices. Our initiative aims to redefine storytelling through a fresh, inclusive lens and create content that resonates personally with our members. This venture is a testament to our collective dedication and cultivated spirit, and I am committed to ensuring its success.
