Sun-warmed afternoons, thrifted finds, and a secret oasis under a budget-friendly canopy. My escape can’t be found on Instagram or Pinterest; it’s right in my own backyard. In one hand, the latest book I can’t put down and chilled lemonade with a tiny pink umbrella in the other.

When Summer Calls for Sanctuary

By 8:12, the shadows had moved across the lawn. The Italian sun rises with rays of promise of high humidity and even hotter temperatures. The juicer whirs as my daughter squeezes fresh lemons, a daily ritual she seems to enjoy during school break when mornings are no longer a rush to get out the door. I step outside in slippered feet, two American shorthairs close in pursuit, and ceremoniously draw the curtains to my gazebo—the ones I chose so that I could enjoy moments like this. Relaxing at home, escaping to the shade, away from the heat of the moment.

Reclaiming a Place to Breathe

Ever longed for space to just breathe? Not a distant retreat, but a gentle refuge. Something within reach. Something that feels like yours.
